Loud and driving, this London, England band was touched by the hand of
Cocteau Twins
' Robin Guthrie, who gave Lush a slightly ethereal quality. Starting off
with the mini-album Scar, Lush is presented in a very raw format that got
lost with "Mad Love" and "Sweetness and Light" (produced by Tim Friese-Greene
of
Talk Talk
fame). In North America, these three releases were combined to form the
album Gala, with the addition of two new tracks. Their first full-length
album Spooky became even more ethereal than it's predecessors, and it got
them a spot on the (in)famous
Lollapalooza tour. Their most recent offering is Split, which goes back
to their earlier less produced moments in sound without losing the volume
level. Either way, you can't escape the sweet vocals of Miki Berenyi and
Emma Anderson, the band's frontwomen and songwriters--Lush is both for
the post-punk enthusiast and the person who likes music that drifts.
